ICAEW Women in Finance & Leadership; what make authentic leadership, authentic?

by Sellick Partnership | 29 April 2016

Over the past few months Sellick Partnership have been sponsoring and attending a variety of events in association with ICAEW North West's ‘Women in Finance & Leadership Programme’. The programme aims to encourage women to consider and discuss challenges in their career whilst helping to provide them with the skills to build and develop their roles as leaders in the finance sector.

So far, Sellick Partnership have supported events such as the launch of the ‘Women in Finance’ initiative at Harvey Nichols with key note speakers Sharon Thorne and Charlotte Sweeny, a networking event at the Wow Bar and Beauty Bazaar in Harvey Nichols Liverpool and the Women in Finance Conference At Wrightington Hotel & Country Club.

On Thursday 21st April, we were delighted to be asked to provide some training and Group Director Rob Gee presented a workshop focused on ‘Authentic Leadership’. As a qualified industrial and business psychologist, Rob offers a variety of development and training courses to a wide range of organisations including Transport for London, RBS, and of course Sellick Partnership.

The talk highlighted the importance of knowing your authentic self, overcoming challenges with being honest as well as offering case studies in which leaders have been successful whilst remaining authentic. Rob also explored what motivates a leader including work/life balance and passion to offer authentic leadership. He also stressed the importance of their ability to build relationship with followers and other leaders, which can be significant in determining whether a leader is authentic.

As market leaders in financial recruitment, we pride ourselves on going one step further to add value to the clients and candidates we work with by sponsoring and attending such events. We hope that everyone enjoyed the talk and we are looking forward to being part of the next ICAEW event in the North West.
