Overview of the Private Client Legal Secretary role

An established and highly regarded private client law practice is seeking an experienced Private Client Legal Secretary to join its busy and growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional and proactive individual with a strong background in private client law to provide high-quality secretarial and administrative support within a collaborative environment.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience within a private client department and be confident managing a varied workload while delivering exceptional client service.

Key responsibilities of the Private Client Legal Secretary will include:

  • Providing comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to fee earners
  • Audio and copy typing of legal documents and correspondence
  • Managing diaries, appointments and meetings
  • Preparing legal forms and documentation, including probate and estate administration paperwork
  • Assisting with the preparation of IHT400 forms and Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs)
  • Handling client communications via telephone, email and in person
  • Providing reception and front-of-house support when required
  • Maintaining accurate client records and filing systems
  • Supporting the wider team to ensure efficient delivery of legal services

Required experience will include:

  • Experience in legal secretarial and audio typing duties
  • Experience within a private client or probate department
  • Experience preparing probate forms and LPAs
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams
  • Experience using legal case management systems; knowledge of LEAP would be advantageous
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively to deadlines
  • Professional and client-focused approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Driving licence and access to own transport
