Overview of the Senior Criminal Solicitor position:

Sellick Partnership is delighted to be working with a long-standing public sector client to recruit multiple Senior Criminal Solicitors into their busy legal team. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals that are newly qualified but are looking to progress within criminal law into a prosecution's role.

As part of this role, you will benefit from a structured induction, four-month training plan and opportunities to shadow colleagues across the organisation. Once you gain further experience, you have options to progress into a more senior position, including the opportunity to progress to managerial positions.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Senior Criminal Solicitor role will include:

  • To prepare and present cases for prosecution.
  • To advise police and other investigators on casework in a wide range of summary-only and some either-way offences.
  • To decide, based on evidence, whether prosecutions should proceed or be discontinued in matters.
  • To explain our decisions clearly to stakeholders including magistrates, counsel, victims, witnesses and the police.
  • To work effectively as part of a multiskilled team.

Key requirements for the Senior Criminal Solicitor position include:

  • A qualified lawyer (able to obtain a valid Practising Certificate for England and Wales).
  • A law degree, Common Professional Examination and/or Graduate Diploma in Law.
  • Completed a Legal Practice Course, Solicitors Qualifying Exam or Bar Professional Training Course and the relevant pupillage and training contract.
  • Demonstrate your commitment to public service, making a difference to the community.
  • A keen focus on personal development and career progression.
  • Proven experience in making effective decisions in a similar role.
  • A strong communicator with excellent influencing skills.
