How did you become interested in recruitment?

After being made redundant from my job during the pandemic I took a step back and tried to think about my skills/the things I enjoyed and how I could apply these to a career. I consider myself a people person, and so recruitment naturally seemed like the next step for someone who enjoys meeting new people and building relationships.

Two years into my journey at Sellick Partnership, I was presented with the opportunity to move over to the Internal Talent Team, hiring accross all of the offices. This was of interest to me, as I felt my time here gave me a unique perspective to hire new Consultants. If I was going to move into an internal role, I wanted it to be for a company that I truly believed in - and Sellick Partnership is that company!

What was it about Sellick Partnership that convinced you to take a role here?

After doing some research on the company and coming into the office for my interview I could tell it was a company that really cared about employee wellbeing. I felt that they wanted their employees to succeed, not just for the company’s benefit, but for the individual’s benefit. Lots of companies sell you the dream, but I felt Sellick Partnership really meant it - and they’ve definitely proven that in the time I’ve been here.

What are the best things about your role?

The people! As my role has evolved, I have been given the chance to travel and spend time with everyone in the different offices. I got along with everyone in the Leeds office and it's so lovely that this is the case across the board.

What is the most challenging part of working in recruitment?

I think starting out can be hard, it takes time to find your feet in any new role. For me, in locum legal recruitment it is so important to build a good network of candidates and clients. The most important thing is to keep up a positive attitude and not let set-backs affect you.

As Internal Talent Co-ordinator, some of these sentiments still stand - however instead of dealing with clients, I am now speaking to the Senior Leadership Team at Sellick Partnership to best understand their recruitment needs. This comes with unique pressures, as I don't want to let people within the business down, the relationships I have with those I'm helping definitely feel more personal.

Outside of your job, what else do you enjoy about Sellick Partnership?

I think everyone in the company looks forward to the companywide events. I also really enjoy our team nights out and making plans with my colleagues – a few of us have even been on holiday together. I also love that Sellick Partnership gives everyone the opportunity to attend external events like awards.
