We are proud to work in partnership with Accounting for International Development (AfID), an organisation which provides accountants with the opportunity to make a genuine difference by arranging for them to share their skills in overseas voluntary roles.
With our vast database of high-calibre finance professionals, our relationship with AfID aims to benefit both those accountants looking to develop their international experience in meaningful voluntary projects, and the global communities in which the participating organisations serve.
AfID’s volunteer programme offers accountants from around the world the opportunity to use their skills to provide pro bono support to a broad range of non-profits globally. Assignments from 2 weeks to 12 months form part of a strategy to build the financial management capacity of organisations in more than 50 countries.
Accounting professionals could be budgeting with a street child centre in Kampala, coaching a hospital bookkeeper in Kigali or financial reporting for a school in Kathmandu. Our partners, which include NGOs, social enterprises, hospitals, micro-finance organisations, agricultural projects and schools are doing amazing work to tackle poverty and inequality in their communities but are unable to access vital professional skills training.
AfID have now arranged assignments for over 1,000 accountants from 50 countries, providing over 250,000 hours of one to one support to more than 500 non-profit partners globally.
What do AfID Volunteers actually do on assignment?
Volunteer accountants/pro bono consultants provide one to one coaching and consultation on all matters relating to the organisation’s finances and accounting. Support often includes the following topics:
Organisational needs assessment/ Internal audit, Year-end/ Project-end Audit preparation

What types of Volunteer roles are available?
All AfID assignments are customised to closely meet the volunteer’s own personal preferences and unique circumstances. Assignments can be as short as 2 weeks, and as long as 12 months, and each one forms a part of the ongoing strategy to build the financial management capacity of charities.
