As the summer holidays draw to a close and the rain inevitably sets in, it's a good time to reflect over the summer months. Sellick Partnership has seen a busy period, with a number of events being organised including the Manchester Professionals Football League (MPFL) Captains day at the Reebok Stadium, home of the Bolton Wanderers, and the Championship Golf Open in Liverpool, which a number of my colleagues attended.
Though the summer can be one of the hardest times to be stuck in the office, I was given the opportunity to organise the Manchester Professionals Cricket League (MPCL). The MPCL sees a number of different companies take part, a special thank you this year to; Addleshaw Goddard, Allianz, Baker Tilly, Barclays/KPMG, Brabners, BDO, BLM, Brown Shipley, BMI Healthcare, Charles Stanley, Deloitte, EY, Grant Thornton, Hacker Young, Hill Dickinson, Manchester University, Mercer, NCC Group, RBS and The Co-Op.
Although the weather in Manchester proved to be a stumbling point, from thunderstorms to torrential downpours, eventually the Finals Day was in sight! With the temperature in late 20s, the sun thankfully managed to make an appearance on the most important day of the league.
On the day, eight teams took part completing the semi-finals and finals for both a cup and plate competition.
We eventually saw The Co-Op and Allianz triumphing in the finals, winning against Sellick Partnership/Charles Stanley and Deloitte/KPMG respectively. Spending the day with the teams who made it to the final was a great opportunity - not only did I manage to get out in the sun and away from the office, but the morale and spirit of the teams was fantastic.
The networking involved in the MPCL creates a buzz for these offices around Manchester and carries on throughout the summer.
After a few demanding months of organisation, our big finale to the league is taking place on October the 10th with an awards lunch to recognise and reward the success of this year's MPCL. This is a chance for all the teams to meet up at a lunch held at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester.
Boasting a luxury three-course lunch, drinks reception and a charity auction, Sellick Partnership donates all the money raised to St Ann's Hospice and The Lord's Taverners. Since starting the league in 2009, Sellick Partnership has raised over £40,000 for the two charities - and this year we are hoping to add a substantial amount to that!
In addition to the above, the teams get a question and answer session with both Graham Gooch and Geoff Miller, giving our cricketing fanatics a chance to gather some tips on skill and technique for the MPCL 2015...
If you're interested in attending this year's MPCL final lunch, please contact myself on 0191 261858 or Anna Gibbons on 0161 8341642 for a booking form or to discuss the above in further detail.
