by Sellick Partnership | 12 January 2016

It’s that time of year again, new year, new me; it’s the time that people reassess their lives and think about what the ideal year will have in store for them. Whether it is the latest diet, fitness regime, a new house or maybe even travel plans, we all like to make that change to make the coming year better than the last or even just for something to work towards or look forward to.
But for some people the change may be to make a move in their career. It may be that you are unhappy in your current role, currently unemployed or looking to progress further in your career. If you are thinking of making that move, there are some important things to consider.
Review your CV
Your CV is the first impression you will make with any employer. Is this a good enough representation of you? Does it make the impression you would like it to? Consider all your past work experience carefully and make sure each role states the aspects that may be important in securing your ideal role. Filter out anything that does not need to be there, make sure all of the content is relevant and up to date. And most importantly, spell check! Attention to detail is key and says a lot about you, don’t let a silly mistake ruin your chances.
Know your sector and market.
Market knowledge is one of the most valuable assets you can hold when looking for a role. Do your research on the kind of companies you’d like to work for and have an idea of your ideal role. This will make your search easier and help you sell yourself should you get to interview stage with any applications.
Register with agencies
Registering with agencies can only aid your search for a new role. Many agencies, especially specialists in your field will have invaluable knowledge of what is currently going on in the market as well as inside information on roles that may be coming up, that haven’t been released to the public.
