Sellick Partnership is excited to be working with a National Legal 500 ranked firm in Leeds who are looking for a Contentious Construction Legal Director to join their team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and manage complex contentious construction matters, including project procurement, contract disputes, and risk issues.
  • Provide strategic legal advice to clients on construction law, project delivery, risk management, and dispute resolution.

  • Oversee major construction disputes, including litigation, arbitration, adjudication, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR).

  • Negotiate, draft, and review construction contracts, consultant agreements, and project documentation.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, delivering high-quality legal service and clear communication throughout project lifecycles.

  • Supervise, mentor, and support junior lawyers, fostering their legal and professional development.

  • Contribute to business development by identifying new opportunities, supporting pitches, and enhancing the firm's reputation in the construction sector.

The successful candidate:

  • Significant experience in construction law, including handling complex projects, contracts, and disputes.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage large projects, and mentor junior lawyers.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships, providing strategic legal advice and support.
  • Track record of identifying new business opportunities and growing client networks.
  • Deep understanding of construction contracts, procurement processes, and industry-specific regulations.
  • Ability to offer practical and commercially sound legal advice that aligns with clients' business objectives.
  • Strong ability to work in collaboration with colleagues across various practice areas and locations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
