Our chosen regional charities for 2019

by Kiran Purewal | 3 June 2019

As a business, Sellick Partnership are committed to supporting the communities in which we work, and over the years have supported numerous causes close to our people’s hearts. This year is no different. Each of our offices have chosen causes that they are going to support in the coming twelve months, and we are delighted to formally announce them here.

Derby – Treetops Hospice Care & me&dee

Our team in Derby have chosen to support two causes this year. The first being Treetops Hospice Care. Treetops Hospice Care provides nursing care and emotional support for adults and their families in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

Laura McWha from the Corporate Partnerships team at Treetops Hospice Care said:

“By choosing Treetops as your charity of the year, Sellick Partnership are choosing to support the free care that we provide to over 2,000 terminally ill patients, and their families in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. Being so local to Treetops, it is more than likely that at least one of your colleagues or clients has already had some sort of connection with the hospice, whether it is a family member or friend having used our services, or by attending one of our many events. For those members of staff and clients who might not have heard of Treetops, this will be a fantastic opportunity to tell people what we do and how, by supporting us, they can help to secure the future of their local free hospice.”

The second charity our Derby team will be supporting in 2019 is me&dee. This Derby based charity provides holidays for adults and children facing life threatening and life shortening conditions and also supports military members with serious psychological and physical injuries in two holiday homes based in Mablethorpe in Lincolnshire.

We have been supporting me&dee for a number of years now, with proceeds of our annual Midlands Charity Football Tournament being donated to the charity.

Leeds – Leeds Children’s Charity

In Leeds, our team have decided to continue supporting their 2018 charity, Leeds Children’s Charity. This Leeds based charity works alongside Lineham Farm Children’s Centre to ensure that young people in need are supported. Leeds Children’s Charity creates happy childhood memories for families, with fun-filled, week long breaks.

Liverpool – Alder Hey Children’s Charity

After some careful consideration, our Liverpool team have decided to support Alder Hey Children’s Charity in 2019. Alder Hey Children’s Charity raises vital funds to help make Alder Hey Children's Hospital a truly world-class, patient-friendly hospital for the 275,000 patients and families they care for every year.

The charity helps to fund a range of activities and projects that are designed to enhance and improve the lives of young patients. This includes the funding of specialist medical equipment to ensure their surgeons and clinical staff have the most up-to-date and cutting edge technology available and funding hi-tech distraction equipment designed and proven to reduce pain and anxiety in patients. They also fund a range of programmes and special projects such as ward musicians, onsite magician and play specialists they have on every ward. Their ground-breaking ward-based chef programme ensures they deliver healthy and nutritionally balanced food to all patients when they need it most.

Elinor Freestone, Corporate Fundraising Officer said:

“We can only provide programmes like this which make Alder Hey Children’s Hospital truly unique with help from organisations such as yourselves. So thank you for helping us to add the magic to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.”

Manchester – Once Upon a Smile

Over the next 12 months our Manchester office will be supporting Once Upon a Smile. Once Upon a Smile was founded in 2011, by Daniel Jillings and Danny Miller to provide emotional and practical support to bereaved families after it became apparent that there was a lack of support for families after the death of a loved one.

Angela Griffiths, Fundraiser at the charity said:

“We are thrilled to be chosen as Sellick Partnership's Manchester charity of the year for 2019/20, so far they have come across as a committed group already showing interest in events and fundraisers that we have planned this year. Employees from Sellick Partnership seem excited and motivated to not only raise funds, but volunteer for Once Upon a Smile. Funds raised and volunteer hours given during this partnership will enable Once Upon a Smile to continue to support bereaved families at their time of need”

Newcastle – Anxious Minds and The Great North Children's Hospital

Finally, our Newcastle office will be supporting two worthwhile causes in 2019, Anxious Minds and The Great North Children’s Hospital.

Anxious Minds was founded in 2015 to help improve the mental well-being of people living in the North East. Their mission is to provide first-class support and education to individuals to help them manage and recover from mental health issues, specialising in anxiety and depression.

The Great North Children's Hospital was opened in 2010, bringing together paediatric services from across Newcastle. It is a referral centre in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The hospital is managed by the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is a teaching hospital for the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and is one of only 14 such children's hospitals of its kind in the United Kingdom.

“Being in hospital can be a daunting and worrying experience for children, young people and their families but the GNCH is designed to be as different from a traditional hospital as possible. With your generosity we can deliver world-class facilities to match the world-class expertise already provided at the GNCH.”
