Overview of Mike:

I am an FCA qualified Finance Director providing financial support to assist with commercial and strategic decisions at Sellick Partnership.

After graduating from the University of Leeds, I was offered the opportunity of a three-year training contract with a practice firm where I worked full-time and studied for my ACA qualification. Working within practice firms for a number of years enabled me to build a breadth of knowledge, auditing companies with hundreds of millions in turnover.

Sellick Partnership was my first role in an industry environment but when I initially approached them, it was for my own recruitment needs as I wanted to take the next step in my career.

Instead, I was invited to meet with Jo Sellick who asked me to interview for a Finance Controller position at Sellick Partnership. In 2014, I started as Financial Controller before eventually being promoted to Finance Director in 2017.

My responsibilities include:

  • Budgeting
  • Forecasting
  • HR and company payroll
  • Providing legal advice
  • Reviewing contracts
  • Monthly management accounts
  • Treasury management
  • Group reporting
  • Commercial analysis
  • Strategic advice
  • Managing the in-house finance department
  • Reporting to Samsic, our parent company

I was heavily involved in the Sellick Partnership transaction with Samsic, taking on due diligence responsibilities and ensuring everything was in order for a business to buy a stake. I now oversee financial reporting to the control team in France as well as attend meetings there twice a year, where I am given the opportunity to share ideas of best practice across the Samsic HR/Samsic RH Group.

In addition to my main responsibilities, I am also involved with training provided to Consultants, particularly with regards to finance and legal information, for example, how to calculate margins or how different candidates are paid. I hold sessions on legislation such as Employment Conduct Regulations, which are the laws that govern recruitment.
